At least four people have been killed and two others wounded in a US drone strike in Pakistan’s North Waziristan tribal region near the border with Afghanistan.
Pakistan security officials say the attack was carried out on Sunday in the Khar Tangi area, about 45 kilometers west of the city of Miranshah.
Some officials say the victims were militants, while others cast doubt on their identity.
Earlier in the day, another US-led drone attack claimed the lives of at least 10 Taliban militants in Afghanistan’s eastern province of Kunar. Afghan officials said the victims “had been helping the Afghan Taliban in several attacks in the province.”
Kabul alleges that militants from neighboring Pakistan carry out terrorist attacks inside Afghanistan.
The US carries out targeted killings through drone strikes in several Muslim nations such as Yemen, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Somalia.
Washington claims the targets of the drone attacks are militants, but local officials and witnesses maintain that civilians have been the main victims of the attacks over the past few years.
The United Nations and several human rights organizations have identified the US as the world’s number one user of “targeted killings,” largely due to its drone attacks in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
